Albany Looking at Leash Laws for Albany Waterfront

The city committee on the waterfront is one step closer to creating rules for the Bulb after a unanimous vote Monday night. Committee Meeting Minutes

“Essentially, dogs would have to be on-leash up through the parking lot, beach and neck, according to the proposed policy. Starting just west of the neck, on the piece of land known as the Bulb, owners and walkers could shift to a voice command system.

A motion about the draft policy included the creation of a two-page map to define the leash regulations for dogs on the waterfront; the requirement that walkers carry a dog walker permit either from the city or from the East Bay Regional Park District; and that dogs declared “vicious and dangerous” would be banned from the area; that there will be a clearly defined off-leash area on the Bulb.”  Emilie Raguso/Albany Patch

What about us?

Published by under Albany Beach,Dogs

I didn’t want to leave out those who unfortunately don’t get to join us at the Bulb everyday.

Jake: who just might need that daily walk more than some.

Jack: Who I’m sure would rather I just leave him alone!

Earth Day Shoreline Clean Up

Published by under Albany Beach

Looks like Bulb will be a busy spot this Saturday.

Here is some information on the planned Albany Shoreline Clean Up.

Celebrate this Earth Day by helping to clean-up the Albany shoreline!
Want to give back to the Earth this Earth Day? Come out and learn about the natural and social history of the Albany Bulb, while helping to clean the shoreline. Learn about the amazing plants and animals who call this shoreline home and how urban trash such as Styrofoam and plastics, and other pollutants threaten this delicate bay ecosystem. Give just a couple of hours of your time to learn a little about our part of the Earth and lend a hand so that together we can make a difference in the health of our environment.
Wear sturdy shoes, a hat and sunscreen, and bring your own water bottle and gloves if you have them. Snacks provided. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
This event is sponsored by the City of Albany and coordinated by the Watershed Project.

When: Saturday April 19th, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

Albany Beach Shoreline Open

Published by under Albany Beach

Well I’ve been waiting and waiting for the “official” beach opening but I think this is as official as it is going to get… The Albany city website is still showing “Albany Beach remains CLOSED to the public at this time” – which seems a bit odd considering the Albany Shoreline Clean Up is scheduled for this weekend) however, the website also states “when the beach is ultimately opened, signage will be installed that cautions users to avoid contact with the tarballs and what to do should you come in contact with it”

These signs have been up for WEEKS! Is it therefore safe to assume since signage is installed it is open?

Okay I’m going out on a limb and saying it “The Beach is open!!” The signs are up and Albany wants us to come celebrate Earth Day by helping clean-up the Albany shoreline.
