Berkeley Animal Welfare Fund (BAWF)

Architects Drawing of New Proposed Shelter
In 2002, the voters of Berkeley supported Measure I, a property tax, to build a new, safe model animal shelter to replace the crumbling facility on 2nd Street in Berkeley. But there is simply not enough money to build the shelter.
We need your help
There are many ways you can help us – Berkeley Animal Welfare Fund – help our local animal shelter, which provides animal care services to three cities in addition to Berkeley; Albany Emeryville and Piedmont. It is the only local animal shelter open 7 days a week. Volunteer, Promote and Support, and DONATE NOW.

Help us to build a new, safe animal shelter for one of the most progressive municipal animal shelters in California.
Donations to the cause benefit: BERKELEY ANIMAL WELFARE FUND A 501(c)(3) nonprofit
1. Build a ‘green’ animal shelter, as ‘sustainable’ and environmentally friendly as possible
2. BACS has the lowest euthanasia rate of any city shelter in CA. Only severe medical or behaviour cases are euthanised.
3. Berkeley is a model shelter with progressive ideals. BACS keeps animals for as long as it takes to find them an adoptive home or rescue
4. The current shelter is dilapidated and floods every winter
5. BACS provides a low cost or free spay neuter program for every Berkeley resident, regardless of status.
